Singer Emil Chou is dedicating his special may concert at Genting’s Arena of Stars to all mothers.

TAIWANESE artiste Emil Chou Wakin (right) is coming back, this time, for his Wakin Mother’s Day Live in Genting Concert at the Arena of Stars, organised by Genting – City of Entertainment, on May 9 and 10.

After having broken all records by performing for over four hours at the Putra Indoor Stadium at Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, in July last year, the question in everybody’s mind now is: will he do it again?

"It’s fate that brings me again to Malaysia," he says, flashing his famous grin. "And I thank everybody for not looking upon me as a stranger.

"Where breaking the four-hour concert record which he had set in KL, there are many factors to consider. The venue here is Genting and we need a special arrangement. I will try my best but I must also leave some time for the audience to visit the casinos ... "

Jokes aside, Chou advises fans to be punctual for his concert as he intends to make every minute count. "It will be a well-paced concert and is my gift to my fans. At the same time, since this is a Mother’s Day concert, bring your mothers along. I guarantee you will not be disappointed."

Adding that his family may be accompanying him on this trip, Chou says his mother may even be here if time and circumstances permit.

Chou says that in his line of work, he does not have much time to celebrate such occasions. "I usually have to work on holidays and festive seasons. But I try to brainwash my mother by saying that Mother’s Day is not important because every day could be a Mother’s Day … and she would nod and agree with tears in her eyes!"

For this concert, he intends to present songs from his 20 years in the industry as well as some new tracks. "I will have some new songs as my new album is in the process of being completed," he says. "It is scheduled for release sometime in June and I have been working hard at it."

However, he is not in a hurry to release new albums now as he was in the past. These days, Chou could afford to take his time and make sure the finished product is what he wants.

In fact, more than a year ago, he requested a new song from Cheng Lee, who has written such hits as A-Do’s Tha Yi Ding Hen Ai Ni (He Must Love You Very Much), Z-Chen’s Bau You Wo (Bless Me) and Chou’s Wo Men Pu Ku (We Won’t Cry), among others.

The local songwriter-cum-producer, who was also Chou’s guest artiste at his concert last year, readily agreed.

"But a year and four months down the road, I am still waiting for my song," Chou laments good-naturedly. "Then, I found out that he was working on his own album and of course, I forgave him.

"When I next chased him down for my song, he turned around and requested that I do a duet with him for his album, Wo He Tha Tha He Tha (Me and Her, Her and Him). Naturally, I have no problems with that. He is a great guy and I admire his talent. Anytime he needs my help, I’m there.

"And perhaps I could get him to attend my Genting concert and bring along 20 of his CDs as presents for everybody!" he says.

Tickets for Wakin Mother’s Day Live in Genting Concert are priced at RM100, RM160, RM240, RM330 and RM460 for the Friday show and RM110, RM180, RM280, RM380 and RM530 for the Saturday show. For details, call 03-2718 1118 or log on to http://www.genting.com.my/
